COMING THIS SPRING AND SUMMER 2018
JOYCE GUNN CAIRNS MBE
One of Scotland’s most cherished artists, with 9 portraits in the permanent collection of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
“Joyce Gunn Cairns ‘ remarkable paintings … demonstrate how many different kinds of visual truths there are ;….. in these graphic and unflinching images, she not only manages that sense of reaching out to touch; she conveys how, from inwards, we feel outward; what it is like to be in one’s own skin…” Duncan MacMillan, The Scotsman, Feb 2011
TOM VOYCE – SKY ARTS ‘LANDSCAPE ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2017’
Illustrated: Tom’s lavender field painting which won him a place in the Final
Tom’s energetic brushwork, mark-making and bold compositions impressed the judges throughout the competition. His winning piece captured a myriad of greens and reflective passages in the landscape and won him a £10,000 commission to paint the view from Noel Coward’s house ‘Firefly’ in Jamaica.
Below: Tom’s paintings relate to 60’s USA realism, one of the artist’s strongest influences being ‘Diebenkorn’. Whilst his perspective and colour remain true to the photographic image. Tom’s application of paint uses the techniques used by abstract expressionists such as Rothko and de Kooning. In essence, his light, shadow and form are merely tools to achieve a complete abstract harmony.
